Our Hebridean Black Sheep have been a very interesting addition to the croft. Unlike the more modern breeds of Blackface and Cheviot, the Hebridean Black Sheep is smaller yet hardier. They have very fine bones and a dark black fleece that will gray with age.
Hebridean Black Sheep may have up to six horns. This striking photo shows a Hebridean with four. Our sheep all have two horns.
One of the ewes had twins just before Easter 2009; a male and female.
The lambs are a joy to watch as they bound up and down the hill with endless energy. We are amazed at how the bold ram lamb is already pushing his way into the feed bowl. With no other rams about he is quickly taking charge!
