THE PIGS

Our first introduction to pig keeping was with Gloucester Old SpotsThey are the oldest spotted pedigree pig in the world.

The Old Spot is known for being placid and easy-going, as well as tough and hardy.  A perfect combination for our unpredictable Hebridean weather!

The Old Spots we have kept have been extremely friendly & inquisitive.  And they always seem to come calling at the feeding shed door right around tea time!

More recently we have been keeping Tamworth pigs.  They are a bit smaller than Old Spots and, in our opinion, a bit more energetic.

Our first attempt at handling Tamworths resulted in two small red bullets charging around the outside of the croft.  With some assistance from Ruby the Dog, we did manage to catch them.  And they proved to be quite loveable characters.

This spring we had six Tamworths residing on the croft.

Our son had a wonderful time getting to know them.

The newest additions arrived in mid-August.  We are so pleased to have two Gloucester Old Spot crosses back on the croft.
